Once in my collection, this example of the now very rare Fibre Rimmed HSAT (Helmet Steel Airborne Troops) is the finest I have ever come across and is, in my opinion, the best example for sale anywhere.

Produced for only four months during 1942 and following on from the P Helmet, they were to be replaced by the so called HSAT Mk 1, in itself still rare.

The shell is completely free from damage and retains all the original rough factory finish paint, the fibre band sitting firmly in place against the out woods flare of the steel rim, which in turn is without splits or cracks.

The leather harness is strong and flexible with no splits or damage and is the earlier type, assembled with heavy machine stitching. The brass eyelets present the only point of note with three (that I can see) missing, the effects of verdigris on the splayed-out underside of the eyelet.

The black rubber padding is perfect, with no loss or hardening, remaining intact and retaining its originally intended flexibility.

The sweatband shows minor service use and is free from damage or wear. Clearly dated 1942, the BMB stamp and the exceptionally rare size of 7 3/8 are still well displayed. Beneath the sweatband the white felt band is free from moth or other damage. Harness tapes and cord are in place as is the bump pad.
