Original Item: Only One Available. This is an early but VERY NEGLECTED over & under turnover Flintlock Pistol by the London Maker of THOMAS GALTON, who worked 1750 until 1795. It features a brass circular engraved Skull Crusher butt Cap, the only brass on the pistol. Turnover barrels, now 7 1/2” in length, may well have started life at about 10”. Presently the pistol is 13 1/2” in overall length. Each barrel, as is the pattern, is equipped with its own Frizzen, pan and frizzen spring. Both are fired using the same Flintlock cock by pulling back the trigger guard, which unlocks the barrels for rotation.

There is no provision for ram rod, which rather suggests that this was done away with when the barrels were perhaps shortened. In any event a very rare English multi-shot Flintlock pistol, with the tragedy being it’s neglected state. It has very faint markings on the barrels, which appear to be proof marks, but they cannot be identified. The lock plate is faintly marked GALTON, an the lock is functional, however it currently will fire at both half and full cock, so the tumbler needs adjustment.

Clearly left in a shed or barn for perhaps 100 years, which has taken its toll, but at least it has survived, as it would be very hard to find another English Example. It has been put in its best light and is ready to display!
